Newspaper Disappointed to Discover Witch Might Be Prostitute

On Monday, Romenesko noted the paper’s update to readers, which appeared online in the form of an item titled: “From the executive editor: About that witchcraft story.” In her letter, Lancaster Newspapers Inc. executive editor Barbara Hough Roda expressed her regret that the woman the newspaper thought was a non-prostitute witch turned out to be a witch who was also an alleged prostitute.

According to police, teachings of her faith were not all Bainbridge resident Rev. Kim Cabot Consoli offered from her home:

Soon after the story was published, information surfaced that the woman, Kim Cabot Consoli, had a criminal record that most recently included charges of prostitution and promoting prostitution. She was arrested in February; police said she offered sex to an undercover officer at the cosmetics and spa business run out of her Conoy Township home.

Had this information been mined earlier, the story would never have been written, let alone published.

Roda also apologized if the profile of the witch led some to believe that bucolic Lancaster County was becoming overrun with warring covens.

NWRF had proposed a an antii-witchcraft bill last year, seeking to eradicate the ill-practice from the society and create an environment free of gender discrimination.

NWRF at the daylong national seminar on ‘Discussion on Proposed Draft Bill against Witchcraft’ today drew the attention of lawmakers to the importance of the bill and urgency to pass it. Lawmakers have expressed their commitment to raise the issue in the Parliament

“The government must make a strong move to end such practices which subject many women across the country to severe torture and violence. There are laws but they are neither enough nor effective,” said Renuka Malla Thakuri, president of NWRF. “Incidents of violence and torture are being reported almost every day. It is high time the government brought strong policies to guarantee women’s rights and save them.”

Prophetess Accuses Nine-year-old Daughter of Witchcraft, Sets Her Ablaze

For allegedly setting her nine-year-old daughter ablaze during a ‘spiritual cleansing’ to cast out the ‘spirit of witchcraft’, a self-acclaimed prophetess,  Bose Oluwole, has been arrested and charged to court by the police in Epe, Lagos State.

The victim, who was identified as Damilola Oluwole, was rescued by neighbours when her screams rent the air.

The neighbours, it was, who alerted the police from Epe Division after they had doused the raging fire.

She was immediately rushed to the emergency unit of Epe General Hospital by the policemen where she is currently receiving treatment for first degree burn.

Speaking to the investigation police officer in charge of the case, the victim said her mother had on that fateful day informed her that a deliverance session would be carried out on her.

THISDAY gathered that the deliverance was allegedly to cast out the spirit of witchcraft, which the mother said had possessed her daughter.

The victim told the police that her mother had during the deliverance session poured kerosene on her and struck a match, setting her ablaze.

As the flames licked her body in relish, she said she ran out in pains and screamed as loud as her voice could carry her until neighbours ran to her aid.

Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart Dead At 66: Pioneering Pagan, Polyamory Leader ‘Crosses The Veil’

Pagan leader Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart reportedly died on May 13 surrounded by friends and family, according to updates on her Facebook page and other social media sites.

A priestess of the pagan Church of All Worlds, Morning Glory is considered by many to be a backbone of the pagan and Wiccan communities in the U.S.

Born Diana Moore in Long Beach, California on May 27, 1948, Morning Glory found her way to witchcraft and paganism as a late teen and initiated herself in a three-week vigil in Big Sur. It wasn’t until 1974, after meeting her husband and life parter Oberon Zell, that she received formal priestess training and became a leader in Zell’s Church of All Worlds (incorporated as a church in 1968.)

In Feburary Morning Glory and Oberon published a book on their lives with co-author John C. Sulak entitled The Wizard and the Witch: Seven Decades of Counterculture, Magick & Paganism.

In addition to speaking and writing on religion, witchcraft and mythology, Morning Glory is often attributed with popularizing the term “polyamory” in a 1990 article entitled, “A Bouquet of Lovers: Strategies for Responsible Open Relationships.” She and Oberon had an open marriage throughout the years and in her article, Zell stated:

I feel that this whole polyamorous lifestyle is the avante garde of the 21st Century. Expanded families will become a pattern with wider acceptance as the monogamous nuclear family system breaks apart under the impact of serial divorces. In many ways, polyamorous extended relationships mimic the old multi-generational families before the Industrial Revolution, but they are better because the ties are voluntary and are, by necessity, rooted in honesty, fairness, friendship and mutual interests. Eros is, after all, the primary force that binds the universe together; so we must be creative in the ways we use that force to evolve new and appropriate ways to solve our problems and to make each other and ourselves happy.

The magic words are still, after all: Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.

In 2006 Morning Glory was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a treatable but incurable bone and blood cancer. She received treatment and improved but then relapsed in early 2014. Faced with substantial medical bills, Oberon launched a GoFundMe campaign that raised nearly $10,000 in three months.

Morning Glory received chemotherapy treatment over the next several months and began home hospice care on May 8 to be with friends and family for her final days. On May 14 Oberon posted an update announcing Morning Glory’s passing on the GoFundMe page:

My beloved has passed beyond the veil. She drew her final breath at 5:42 yesterday afternoon. Her handmaidens, students and priestesses prepared her body and dressed her in her beautiful Sea Priestess robes. She is now lying in grace in the Temple for a few days until we take her body to its final resting place in the Earth. It’s been an incredible week–grief and joy intermixing like a lava lamp. So many beautiful loving people gathered around, taking care of everything. That’s all I can really say right now…I can barely see to type.

Condolences and prayers streamed in on Oberon’s Facebook page after news of Morning Glory’s death spread, demonstrating the powerful role the priestess played in the lives of many.
